Premium Rate Service Numbers have always had a certain level of bad press attached to them, with recent high profile and controversial cases not helping the cause. Current alternatives, such as call back services to arrange payment, prove to be laborious at the least.

With this in mind, UK based network operator Core Telecom have joined forces with CreditCall, US giants in the credit and debit card processing industry, in developing a new and unique service that they are confident will eventually replace PRS numbers.

High Value Telephone Service was officially launched on 1st September 2007, with pilot studies showing a very positive response from industry clients such as tarot and chat line operators, through to consultancy and technical support services. Managing Director of Core Telecom, Steve Cordingley says,’...using this service allows resellers the freedom to charge per minute or per call, at whatever rate they wish. The revenue per minute, per call is generally around 20% higher than gained from premium rate. Response from tarot and psychic readers indicates that this service is a viable replacement for PRS access, with the use of standard PSDN and freephone numbers, all networks may now be used to access reseller services...’.

So what innects directly to the HVTS software. Once the customer has made their choice of service required via a 4 digit PIN number, they will be asked to enter their payment card details using the touchtone buttons. This is instantly sent for bank authorisation – once authorisation is instantly confirmed, the customer will then be connected to the service operator they have selected. The obvious advantages of this over ‘call back services’, is that the service operator is not tied up with payment transactions, therefore being ultimately able to receive a higher volume of calls. The customer is also a lot happier, as they are able to enter their payment card details into a secure software system, as opposed to giving them to a live operator.

Both Core Telecom and Credit Call believe that the opportunities to resellers provided by this service are endless.
