As part of our wider support for Variety, The Children’s Charity Core Telecom was honoured to be a key sponsor of The Yorkshire Business Awards 2016.
The annual awards ceremony, this year hosted by BBC’s Louise Minchin at The Queens Hotel in Leeds, fully supports Variety and this charitable event has become one of the premier fixtures on the Yorkshire business calendar. Other sponsors included the Yorkshire Post, Rothschild and Yorkshire Bank.
As part of our support Core Telecom sponsored the VIP welcome drinks which took place in The John Charles Suite before sponsors and attendees took their seats for lunch and the awards ceremony itself. As a sponsor of the event, our CEO Mahmood Mazhar also had the huge honour of meeting keynote speaker, Sir Trevor McDonald.
The annual and prestigious awards featured Business Leader Of The Year (Di Walker – Karro Food Group), Board Of The Year (Principle Group), SME Of The Year (Tracsis PLC), Young Business Award (The Floow Ltd) and The Variety Lifetime Achievement Award (Dame Diana Rigg). Variety also made an extra special gesture of presenting the family of the late Jo Cox MP with The Variety Special Recognition Award.
The event was concluded with the surprise of Louise Minchin introducing Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee to the stage.
The Leeds based olympic tri-athletes entertained the audience with a fabulous interview and a fascinating insight into their success and the life of a professional athlete.
In September this year our CEO, Mahmood Mazhar, worked with Variety to fund a Sunshine Coach for The Forest School in Knaresbrough. This support has also expanded with the donation of 2 defibrillator units and full training for their team.
